If the artwork is offered in the SVG format, you can open the file and inspect it in Inkscape. To check if a file is in SVG:
Click on a piece of artwork.
Look for the Type row in the artwork description. If the text beside the label says image/svg+xml, it is in SVG. If it says something other than that (such as image/png, it’s not an SVG file, therefore it’s not possible to view the layers of the artwork.
Attention
Please give extra care to the license the artwork is in. Beneath the artwork info, there should be a image showing which license the artwork is under. Please respect it and act accordingly.
Clicking on the image takes you to a web page describing the license.
A good place to start would be the About Screens. These are voted upon by members of the Inkscape community, and often reflects what the program is capable of in the specific time period. All of the about screen entries are also in the gallery; if they were nominated, you will see a badge beneath the artwork thumbnail.
