Initial Preferences

Here are some preferences you may want to change initially. See the Preferences section for the complete list of available settings.

To change the following preferences, go to Edit ‣ Preferences in the menu or press the shortcut CtrlCmdShiftP.

Language

Inkscape should start in your system language. To change the language:

  • Navigate to Interface.

  • Choose a language from the dropdown beside the label Language:. You can search for your language in the search bar within the language dropdown.

  • Restart Inkscape to see the language in effect.

Scaling

There are several places in the preferences where you can change the scaling for different parts of the interface:

  • Interface ‣ Theming: Change the font scale of the interface with the slider beside the label Font scale:. Click on the Apply button so see the new scale in effect.

  • Interface ‣ Toolbars: Change the size of icons in the toolbox and control bars with the sliders.

Autosave

When Inkscape crashes, you’ll want autosave files available. To set up autosave, navigate to Input/Output ‣ Autosave in the preferences, and change the autosave directory, interval and maximum number of autosaves to your liking.

Startup Screen

Under Interface ‣ Windows, you can choose what to show when Inkscape launches by clicking on the dropdown beside Show when starting:, and clicking on the one of the options.
